6th April

  • International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (6th April 2021).

On 23 August 2013, the United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace: this date commemorates the inauguration, in 1896, of the first Olympic Games of the modern era in Athens.

The celebration of this symbolic day demonstrates just how many people there are, around the world and from all walks of life, using sport to tackle social issues. April6 is their day, and INSPIRE project decided to honour the importance of their work and the efforts they lend daily to furthering the peace cause!

In which way? Through the participation at the #WhiteCard campaign, launched by Peace and Sport, a non-profit organisation: as a reference to the yellow and the red card in the sporting world, the #WhiteCard invites not to punish but to promote peace.

On April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, our students and young people demonstrated their support for the peace through sport movement in their part of the world doing a #WhiteCard in the framework of their activity!
